It felt like they either didn't know how to properly finish the game, or had to rush at the end to deliver the game to backers. There were a ton of plot threads left unfinished. Ultimately, it was an unsatisfying conclusion to a story that had a ton of promise. The dialogue between Shay and Vella could've definitely been lengthened. The story here began to tank, starting after the dead-eye god (I think? Relying on memories from a year ago), and the ending was unexpected, but very short and without necessary explanation or expansion. Some of the puzzles seemed overly difficult without external help, like the knot tying one, or most ones involving rewiring hexpals.

From here on out, I pretty much used the strategy guide exclusively, just trying to get through the game so I could delete it from my switch. I wandered again for a long time trying to figure out what to do, and eventually resorted to a strategy guide for what I think was the first time. I didn't pick the game up again until last month - a whole year later (thanks quarantine). I wandered for maybe 45 minutes per character, then quit and promptly got absorbed in something else. I couldn't figure out how to progress past two points in the second-to-last chapters for both characters. It was reminiscent of GTA 5, which I liked quite a bit.Īnd then, I hit a wall. The separate character progression system was a nice touch. They set up a good story, interactions were funny and enjoyable, and the puzzles weren't bad. And for the first 70% of the game, I did! The first seven hours were a great time. When I first saw Broken Age, I loved the art style, and thought I'd really like the game. Mostly Telltale stuff like Sam & Max, BTTF, and SBCG4AP.
